We rode on the train called the Overlander. It runs on the North Island Main Trunk Line from the city of Auckland, New Zealand's largest city with well over a million people and located on the north end of the North Island; to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, located on the south end of the North Island. This video showcases what it was like to ride the Overlander. There are a total of 16 stops on the route between Auckland and Wellington, so it usually takes about twelve hours. Fortunately, there are quite a few stops where you can get off, stretch out your legs, and even buy a coffee or pastry at National Park Station. There is a snack car on the train, and you can also buy meals, or you can bring your own food as well. The train is quite an amazing journey (haha, just like the band :), and includes amazing scenery. There are multiple tunnels along the route, including the world famous Raurimu Spirals, where the line spirals through a mountain and ends up going right over itself and you can see the track way down below you.
