Paul Mandeltort "hacks" a Mazda RX8 by reading real-time On-board-diagnostic Parameters (PIDs) and displaying and logging them in a LabVIEW program. This demo uses a NI USB-8473 CAN interface, an NI OBD to CAN cable, NI LabVIEW, and the NI Automotive Diagnostic Command Set. The demo monitors several extra parameters not shown on the dashboard, including engine load, spark advance, throttle position, and some temperatures. The values are available on any vehicle that conforms to the OBD-II standard. The car is a Mazda RX8.
